Push For KY Constitutional Amendment
It has been reported that a bill was pre-filed last week in Kentucky which would allow voters to decide whether the state's constitution should be amended in order to expand legalized gaming, including the implementation of slot machines at racetracks
.
An article by cincinnati.com has said that the legislation, which was pre-filed by State Representative Mike Nemes, would see voters decide on the issue in November of 2012.
If the legislation passes and the November vote proves to be in support of an amendment, Nemes will then file another bill which would allow each county to decide via local ballot issue whether or not to allow expanded gambling in the county.
The article states that counties which have a racetrack within its perimeter would be given the option to only limit the expansion to slots at racetracks.
The article has quoted Turfway Park President Bob Elliston as saying, “I appreciate that there’s far more conversation about the general topic of a constitutional amendment and ways for the horse industry to get on a level playing field with surrounding states.”
