Commission To Ban Without Charging
According to a report by The Guardian, the British Horseracing Authority has recently used its power to ban a pair of licensees even though no formal charges are being laid
.
An article by The Guardian explains that the BHA has barred licensees Gurdip Singh and Tejihder Bhoot from entering all racecourses and training establishments and from having any contact with licensed owners, trainers, jockeys or stable staff. The report then states that no charges are expected to be laid.
The British Horseracing Authority's head of communications, Paul Struthers, has been quoted as saying that the course of action could be used more frequently going forward in order to try to snub out corruption in the sport.
Singh and Bhoot were ruled off due to what the report has called 'unspecified conduct that "might be damaging to racing."'
"It is a relatively new development this year," Struthers was quoted as saying. "You will probably find that this power will be used more frequently. We have taken a decision that, where people are not bound by the rules of racing and do not co-operate with investigations, there is no point in waiting until such time as it is possible to bring charges. We may as well just exclude them."
