Bier, Macomber Dominate Colonial Card
Sean Bier drove five winners, including four dominant scores in tandem with trainer Richard Macomber, on Colonial Downs' ten-race Tuesday card.
Bier and Macomber teamed up to win those four races by a total of 28 3/4 lengths.
Pro North's 8 3/4 length tour de force in race one despite breaking at the start was an appropriately auspicious beginning for the duo. Bier quickly got the four-year-old Northern Luck horse back on stride, seized the lead before the half and simply widened with every stride to stop the clock in 1:52.2.
Macomber did not have another horse until race seven, but Bier kept up his winning ways with Single Spice in race six.
Bier helped Macomber to his second victory of the evening with a patient drive of Nifty Norman in race seven. Bier took the Grinfromeartoear gelding well off a sizzling early pace and Nifty Norman simply inhaled the early leaders in upper stretch to post a convincing 5 1/2 length victory in 1:51.2.
Macomber's perfect night continued with Poweriscape's nine-length score in race nine. Poweriscape raced in fifth through the first eighth of a mile but Bier, perhaps sensing a very slow pace developing, shot Poweriscape right the lead to seize complete control of the race. The seven-year-old Personal Flower gelding paced the half in 59.3 and powered home unchallenged, stopping the clock in 1:55.2.
Macomber concluded the night with his trainee Westedge Lane who posted a six-length victory as the 3-5 favorite in the nightcap.
