Schooner Doubles In Young Guns Series
Sophomore pacer Schooner doubled up in the Young Guns Series on Saturday night at Sudbury Downs winning one of two $8,500 third leg divisions
.
After winning his first leg division two weeks ago, Schooner rebounded from a disappointing 10th place finish in round two with a wire-to-wire 1:56 win tonight, equalling his lifetime mark. Private Practice (Paul MacLean) followed from the pocket one length behind and After The Battle (Jason Ryan) rounded out the top three.
David Dowling drove the son of American Ideal-Monterey Bound to his seventh win in 23 starts, for trainer Yvon Lamoureux and owner Marc Belisle of Val Caron, Ont.
He paid $4.80 to win as the fan favourite.
Flight Night, second in the first leg to Schooner and fourth in the second round, squashed Real Simple’s chances for a series sweep with his 1:56.3 front end victory in the second division. Favourite Real Simple (Wayne MacLean) finished three lengths behind in second off a pocket trip and Dont Tell Mom (Ryan Holliday) was third.
He paid $8.90 to win as the 7-2 third choice.
Driver Paul MacLean owns the three-year-old son of Western Terror-Roofin Ruth, who has won nine times in 24 starts this year, while France MacLean handles the training duties. The training-driving duo clicked in one other race and Paul went on to score two additional victories during the 10-race card.
