The Big M Appoints New GM
On Thursday, September 8, officials with the 'New Meadowlands Racetrack' announced that Mike Newlin has been named the new general manager of the track
.
In this role, Newlin will be responsible for all aspects of the operation at the Meadowlands and the development of the Bayonne OTW.
Newlin has a proven record of leadership success across diverse racing and gaming properties, including the Nebraska State Fair, where he increased attendance and wagering revenue as director of operations. He previously served as director of pari-mutuel operations at several horse and greyhound racing facilities, including Canterbury Park Racetrack and Card Club.
"This is an exciting opportunity for everyone involved," said Newlin, who will begin his new role on September 19. "Together we will create an atmosphere that welcomes new patrons to the track while preserving our current fan base. Jeff Gural and I share the same vision regarding changes the racing industry needs in order to survive and thrive in the future. The New Meadowlands Racetrack will be an entertainment destination that promotes world-class racing in a friendly, fun environment."
"Mike's enthusiasm for promoting a great live racing experience and commitment to excellent customer service made him a perfect fit for this position," noted New Meadowlands Racetrack operator Jeff Gural. "I was impressed by his passion for the sport, which is what we need in a general manager. Mike's operational background and strong relationship building skills will help make the Meadowlands a long-term success."
The New Meadowlands Racetrack has also appointed Gerald Wiemann as director of finance and Mona Vaccarella, director of human resources. Wiemann brings extensive financial and operational leadership experience to the New Meadowlands Racetrack. His past positions include chief financial officer for the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation, where his responsibilities included financial oversight for three racetracks.
Vaccarella returns to her New Jersey roots from Indiana where she was vice president of human resources at the Majestic Star Casinos & Hotel. Her experience includes staff development, training and budgeting for global Fortune 500 organizations, as well as consulting for the gaming and hospitality industries. She will oversee HR services for the Meadowlands, Monmouth Park, Favorites at Woodbridge and the developing Bayonne OTW.
