Potter: 'The Jug Will Be His Next Start'
One day after Big Bad John dodged an early breaker and went on to win his $200,000 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes final at Chester Racetrack, his trainer, Ron Potter, has gone on the record regarding the colt's next start
.
On Tuesday, September 6, Potter told the Little Brown Jug's publicity arm that the bay son of Western Hanover will next see pari-mutuel action at the Delaware Ohio County Fairgrounds when he contests the $650,000 Jug.
“The Little Brown Jug will be his next start,” Potter was quoted as saying about Big Bad John. “He’s back home in his stall at the Delaware Fairgrounds. I think that’s an advantage: not having to ship him in. He has done pretty much everything we hoped. He’s had a great year."
After having avoided an offstride Custard The Dragon in their rich PASS final, Big Bad John and pilot David Miller went on to record a 1:49.4 victory, which was the colt's fourth consecutive sub-1:50 mile.
“When I saw Custard The Dragon make that break, I held my breath hoping Big Bad John could get clear of him,” Potter said. “David Miller did a great job of keeping him in contention.”
