Slave Lake Benefit Announced
It has been announced that Alberta Downs, the Alberta Standardbred Horse Association, 790 CFCW and the harness racing community will join together on Monday, September 5 for a benefit in support of those effected by
the devastating Slave Lave wildfire.
Come out to Alberta Downs in Lacombe on September 5 for an afternoon card of live harness racing (1:35 p.m. first-race post time) followed by evening events which include will include a dinner and dance with live music from Kixxsin, a live and silent auction, a draw for a trip for two to Las Vegas, as well as numerous other draws. A live media race will also be featured during the race card.
Tickets are $10 and 790 CFCW will be live on location.
The Town of Slave Lake was devastated by a wildfire that raced through the community on Sunday, May 15 of this year. The fire destroyed roughly one-third of Slave Lake. A total of 374 properties were destroyed (52 damaged in the town; another 59 were destroyed and 32 damaged in the surrounding area, thus leaving 732 residents homeless). The town hall was completely gutted by the fire, as was the library and radio station. Insurable damage was estimated at C$700 million, making it the second costliest insured disaster in Canada's history, while total damages reached $1.8 billion
