'Peelers' Favoured In First Jug Pool
Three-year-old pacing filly See You At Peelers is the 3-1 favourite in the first of two wagering pools for the 2011 Little Brown Jug
heading into this afternoon's Nadia Lobell stakes at The Meadows. Delaware owned and trained Big Bad John is next at 4-1 and Meadowlands Pace champion Roll With Joe is third at odds of 9-2.
“Our fans love the stars,” said Phil Terry, general manager and director of marketing for the Delaware County Fair. “Can you believe the bettors picked a filly over all of those good colts? We are really hoping trainer Jimmy Takter brings See You At Peelers to the Jug. She could be the second filly ever to capture the Jug.” (Fan Hanover won the Jug in 1981.)
See You At Peelers was the champion two-year-old filly last year with 13 victories and was nine-for-nine this season at the time of writing including a win in the Art Rooney at Yonkers Raceway against the colts. See You At Peelers has earned $1,485,952 for her owners, Christina Takter, John Fielding and Jim Fielding. Her driver is Marcus Johansson.
Big Bad John will get plenty of support from his hometown fans in Delaware, Ohio. He is owned by Edward Telle of Powel, Ohio, trained by Ron Potter of Delaware, Ohio and driven by David Miller of Columbus, Ohio. He has six wins in nine starts this year including an elimination of the North America Cup, Pennsylvania Sires Stakes and the Oliver Wendell Holmes at The Meadowlands where he set his record of 1:49 flat. Big Bad John’s next start will be Monday, September 5 in the $150,000 Pennsylvania Sires Stakes Final at The Meadows.
Roll With Joe is on a streak with victories in the $1 million Meadowlands Pace and $500,000 Battle of the Brandywine. A lifetime winner of $1,369,070, the colt is trained by Edward Hart and owned by Blue Chip Bloodstock, Stephen Demeter, Not To Worry Stable and Winbak Farms. Ron Pierce, who has four Jug victories, is the driver. Roll With Joe’s next start is Saturday’s Cane Pace eliminations at Tioga Downs.
The second future wagering pool will be from 12 p.m. Sunday, September 18 through 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, the first three afternoons of Grand Circuit racing at the Delaware County Fair. Complete past performance lines for all Jug starters will be available free of charge on the Little Brown Jug website: www.littlebrownjug.com.
