Cisco Concludes Card With Six Wins

Combining a hot driver with a hot horse shouldn't result in a $45.20 mutuel, but that was the case when Laredos Goose teamed up with Scott Cisco

.

A field of 10 starter allowance pacers were featured at Cal Expo on Saturday night (August 27), in which Laredos Goose feathered his foes.

Coming away in sixth position from Post 4 into a :29.3 opening quarter, driver Scott Cisco got what he needed approaching the 7/16ths mile pole when he pulled.

"I happened to get lucky in that I flushed out My Real Love [and Rich Wojcio], who flushed out Jessalilpeace [and Luke Plano] -- and they got me pretty close to the front around the three-quarters," stated Cisco.

Racing third-over past the 7/16ths into a 1:00.4 first-half mile, Laredos Goose advanced to fifth off the okay flow while the field reached the three-quarter mile station, timed in 1:30.2. Now briefly following three-wide cover with 3/16ths of a mile to go, then moving four-wide, Cisco went to work on his eight year-old.

"I was able to tip out and he was able to blast right by," he said.

Closing in willing fashion to take over the lead with a sixteenth of a mile to go, the gelding prevailed by one and a half lengths. Owned by Dave and Rob Haness in partnership with trainer George Reider, Laredos Goose won for the 23rd time in his career, this time in 1:59.2. Macs Derrick T (Steve Wiseman) finished in second, and Devilish Donnie (Anthony Succarotte) finished one and a half lengths farther back, in third.

"I know he was facing tougher tonight, but those last three wins he had in June at 1-9, 1-5 and 8-5 odds got him real brave. He was up to the task tonight and raced big and overcame the 21-1 odds they somehow sent him off at."

For the “Cisco Kid,” this victory concluded a six-win night, equalling a personal career-best established earlier this year.

"It was one of those nights where everything worked out. There are some nights that things don't work out and you don't do well. Tonight things worked out and I did well," finished Cisco.
