On Friday, August 26, the Woodbine Entertainment Group and the Central Ontario Standardbred Association announced that effective September 1, standardbred purses will be raised at Mohawk Racetrack

.

Wagering on standardbred racing at Mohawk and Woodbine has been stable over the last 12 months, prompting the WEG-COSA partnership to raise purses.

“There has been sustained growth in wagering from the U.S. market on our product,” said Bruce Murray, WEG’s vice president of Standardbred Racing. “Additionally, there have been fewer races contested per card than forecast in 2011 as a result of competition for high calibre horses.”

The Mohawk Summer Meet will continue through October 1 before transferring to Woodbine Racetrack for the balance of the season. The Woodbine meet will be highlighted by the $7 million Breeders Crown program on October 29.
