'Woman' Equals Track Record
The Joe O’Brien Memorial and Lady Slipper Stakes filled up the Wednesday night card of live harness racing at Summerside Raceway, and highlights included driver Gilles Barrieau sweeping both of the gold stakes divisions and Waiting On A Woman turning in another trotting track record performance

In the $20,000 gold division of the Lady Slipper Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies, favourite J J Maywest and Barrieau advanced from last to first and sprinted away from the pack to win by nine and three-quarter lengths in 1:58.3. Elm Grove Girlzone (Mark Bradley) and Cash An Clay (Kenny Arsenault) rounded out the top three finishers.
Blaine McKenna trains and co-owns the daughter of Western Paradise-Jenn Of Art with Harold Culleton of Ellerslie and Gary Aitken of Summerside, P.E.I. The bay filly now boasts five wins in her career and has yet to finish off the board in seven starts. Her earnings climbed to $23,419.
Four $5,000 grassroots divisions went to Dale Drummond's homebred filly Farmers Glory in 2:03.2, Frank Bank's homebred Goodmorninbeautful in 2:01.2, Michael Collings' April Dawns Star in 2:02.2, and Bill and Brian Andrew's Royal Wedding in 2:03.
Barrieau and the popular Dukes Up settled for a pocket ride behind Touch Of Lightning (Earl Smith) in the $16,800 gold division of the Joe O’Brien Memorial Stake for freshman pacing colts and then pounced on the pacesetter in the stretch to prevail by half a length in 2:00, equaling his lifetime mark. Kingdom Come (Mark Bradley) finished two lengths behind in third.
Albert Davies trains the son of Fit For Life-Duchess Of Dexter, who has won half of his six starts, for owner Reginald MacPherson of Stratford, P.E.I. The brown colt has never missed a pay cheque so far in his career, earning $19,157.
Three $5,000 grassroots divisions went to Painting The Town Stable's Windemere Jack in 2:01.2, Colleen Dickie's homebred colt Pretty Boy Floyd in 2:01.3, and the Somewhat Stable's R Es Art in 2:01.4.
Four trotting divisions of the Lady Slipper Stakes were also contested on the card in which Waiting On A Woman equalled his own 1:59.1 trotting track record and lifetime mark, originally set on July 12 in Atlantic Sires Stakes action.
Waiting On A Woman and driver Corey MacPherson went wire-to-wire in one of two $7,600 divisions for three-year-olds, winning by five and a quarter lengths over filly Maple Leaf Spirit (Ralph Annear) and The Iceman Aireth (Marc Campbell).
Trainer Mitchell Tierney and David Tierney of Cornwall, P.E.I co-own the gelded son of Northern Bailey-Southwind Faith, who rebounded from a third place finish in an ATSS division at Woodstock and a break in stride in his last start out at Charlottetown after suffering broken equipment. Now 14-for-18 in his career, Waiting On A Woman boasts nearly $50,000 in purse earnings.
John Breau's lightly raced homebred Mile Hill Bo won the other sophomore division in 2:02.2 while two-year-old fillies My Daisy Duke, owned and bred by Jonathan MacDonald, and Perfect Posture, owned by Melvin Willis, won their $8,000 divisions in 2:05 and 2:05.3 respectively.
