After narrow misses in his last two appearances in Rideau Carleton Raceway’s $13,000 Preferred class, Its A Good Thing returned to the five-eighths mile oval on Thursday evening and got all the marbles
.
With John MacDonald at the controls, Its A Good Thing rallied from well off the pace to score in 1:53 – a step up from the second-place finishes he’d picked up in his last two assignments.
Bolero Charles laid down fractions of :27.2, :56.2 and 1:24.1 before giving way to Its A Good Thing, who used a :27.4 to post the half-length decision over Bolero Charles. Smokeys Luck rounded out the top three finishers in the eight-horse affair.
Trainer Gary McDonald shares ownership on the five-year-old son of Western Maverick with Suzanne McDonald of Edwards, ON. Together, they’ve watched the gelding assemble an impressive 8-7-2 record from just 26 trips to the track this season. The 19-time winner has banked in excess of $218,000 to date.
