Sunday’s feature at Scioto Downs started badly for 4-5 favourite Shes A Jailbird, but it ended well when she got up to win to win by one and three-quarter lengths for trainer-driver Mike Myers.

When the seven trotters left the starting gate, Shes A Jailbird was offstride, as the two-year-old Cantab Hall filly Mackenzie Hall stepped confidently to the front for driver JD Wengerd. The high-stepping freshman lass took the field to the quarter in :29.4 and then to the half-mile marker in 1:00.4.

By that point, Myers had Shes A Jailbird back onstride and back in contention. He moved her into the outer flow before the half as Mackenzie Hall faded in the third quarter. Power Slam and Shes A Jailbird battled for the lead, but Shes A Jailbird held her at bay in the final quarter. The mile was clocked in 2:03.1. The 47-1 shot Camp Master got up for third.

It was the first win of the 2011 season for the four-year-old daughter of Jailhouse Jesse, who is owned by Mark Myers of Xenia, Ohio. She dropped her mark five seconds from a win last summer at the Dayton, Ohio fair.

Also on Sunday afternoon card, former Scioto driving champ Chris Page took the Ohio Lottery Race of the Day with Iras Sunny Guy in 1:56.2. Page let Munster Buster go the front after the start, then moved the 6-5 favourite to the engine. Iras Sunny Guy and Munster Buster led the pack the rest of the mile, but Iras Sunny Guy pulled away from his pursuer in the stretch to win by three and a quarter lengths.

It was the second win in 14 starts for the 6-year-old gelding, who is trained by James Roach and owned by Barbara Kreitzer.
