Competing in the “Bernie Waugh Memorial Trophy” race, honouring a former track horseman, Mata Harry ($14.60) drafted along behind the pacesetting favourite, Pacinello, until the final furlong, and then rallied to win the featured seventh race by a head.
Frank Milby drove for trainer Dennis Whittemore as the 10-year-old son of Armbro Operative-Down East Lady logged her fourth win at the meet and 35th lifetime success. Elliot Misshula owns the career winner of $422,545.
Fastest-mile-of-the-night honours went to Handsome Harry, who recorded a 1:51.2 triumph with Claude Huckabone, Jr. sulky-sitting in Saturday’s $6,000 ninth event. Angus Mac Donald conditions the career winner of 28 races for owners Ralph Del Priore, Jr. and Harry Doyle.
