On Friday, August 5, the Breeders' Cup announced that it reached a sponsorship deal with one of the poker world's top players and personalities
.
Michael 'The Grinder' Mizrachi is the personality in question.
A report by pokernews.com has quoted Breeders' Cup Vice President of Media and Entertainment Peter Rotondo as saying, “We believe that there is a strong cross-over between poker and horse racing, which has not yet been realized.”
Rotondo went on to say, “We’re thrilled to have a relationship with The Grinder which will allow for one of poker’s superstars to reach out to the poker world and educate them about the Breeders’ Cup and the over $160-million in liquidity during our two-day event.”
Mizrachi has won 19 career titles and over $11.2 million in earnings on the felt. In 2010, the resident of Miramar, Florida hauled down a $2.3-million payday when he finished fifth in the World Series of Poker Main Event.
The poker boom, mass television exposure and hole-card cameras have shown Mizrachi fans how the 30-year-old builds his stacks at the tables. Horse-racing punters would probably like the see how he navigates a race program, and now one lucky fan is going to have that chance.
One of the promotional campaigns Mizrachi will be involved in with the Breeders' Cup is will see a fan win the chance to attend the 2011 Breeders' Cup (Churchill Downs, November 4-5) with The Grinder.
“It’s an honour to be associated with such a well-known name as the Breeders’ Cup,” Mizrachi was quoted as saying. “I’ve long been a huge horse racing fan and I am pleased to have this opportunity to align myself with the richest horse racing event with such large wagering pools.”
