The wins kept coming for 20-year-old driver Nick Steward on Saturday night as he reeled off five in a row to close out Hiawatha Horse Park’s 12-race program
.
After hitting the board in his first three starts of the night, Steward dominated the final races on the card. The resident of Dorchester, Ont. sent five-year-old Rosebowls MVP ($7.70) down the road for the trotter’s first win of the season in 1:59.3 by half a length for trainer Todd Kennedy.
In the next race, he converted from the pocket to score by three-quarters of a length with veteran pacer Tattlers Top Gun ($5.70) in 1:54.1 for Ray Farmer.
The Joseph Cirasuola-trained pacer Hesoneinamillion ($4) wired the 10th race field in 1:54.3, winning by over two lengths before Steward earned back-to-back victories with a pair of Travis Alexander pupils.
Four-year-old pacer Source Of Power ($16.50) rallied home from fourth to prevail by half a length in 1:54.1 and seven-year-old pacer Daddy Mac ($4.70) captured the featured $9,600 Preferred 2 with a front end effort in 1:52.1 by two lengths.
"I didn't think I had five winners coming into the night, but things just kind of went my way tonight and worked out," Steward told Trot Insider after his first five-win performance of his career.
Steward has put up consistent numbers in his first three years of driving and is en route to a new high this season. The current leading driver at Hiawatha Horse Park has won 397 races lifetime while earning over 2.4 million.
