Gerald Walsh Passes
Trot Insider has learned that Gerald Walsh, a longtime harness racing participant of Stratford, P.E.I., passed away at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown on August 2
at the age of 79.
Walsh was born in Draperstown, Northern Ireland on August 7, 1931.
He most recently served as the Racing Manager of Greenoaks Farm Racing Stable, Atlantic Division. As a standardbred owner, one of his personal favourites was the Kentucky Spur gelding, Zodiac Mac, who raced in P.E.I. during his later years.
Walsh is survived by his wife, Mina; son, Neil, Oakville, Ont.; Mina's children, Kathleen and Stewart MacMillan; sister and brothers, May Beckett (Bill), Belfast, Northern Ireland; Harold (Marie), Brampton, Ont.; Stanley (Valerie), Portsmouth, England; and David (Joyce), Australia.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret, and daughter, Elaine.
Honouring Walsh's wishes, there will be neither visitation nor funeral. His ashes will be buried in the family plot in Meadowvale Cemetery, Mississauga, Ont.
