Yonkers Readies For Final WDC Leg
Yonkers Raceway is anxiously anticipating Friday night's fifth and final round of the 2011 World Driving Championship
.
In addition to the world-class competition (Races 1, 2, 4 and 5 on the 13-race card) and subsequent awards presentation, there is also a ton of international flavour. While fans can get autographs from the participants after the final race of the series, each of the 10 countries will also be "represented" with its own beer or wine, along with food specials...everything from half-racks of Danish baby back ribs to grilled Canadian salmon to Swedish meatballs to the American standard of boneless smoked short ribs, with tastes from every nation in between. The international food and beer garden opens on the track apron at 4 p.m.
There is also live music stating at 4:30 p.m., the ever-popular T-shirt giveaway (while supplies last, beginning at 5:30 p.m., along with mini-flags of the participating countries), and the Parade of Nations--with the World Drivers arriving trackside via Mustang convertibles--set for 6:40 p.m. First post is the usual 7:10 p.m.
"It's an honour for Yonkers to be a host track for the World Driving Championship," said general manager Bob Galterio. "The series has been great to watch, and with everything to be decided here, we're going to put on the best show possible."
