Concert Series Featured At WEGZ
Three bands, who have already taken the WEGZ Stadium Bar stage for the Rock ‘N’ Brews Concert Series, will return to the popular Vaughan destination this Thursday, but this time they’ll go head-to-head against each other
.
40 Sons, Dean Lickyer and Seven Year Riot (7YR) will take centre stage for an encore, but this time an opportunity of a lifetime will be on the line. The acts will vie for a spot in the Band Showdown, scheduled for Thursday, September 8, and a chance to open for headliner, Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker (USS).
WEGZ kicked off the summer with the series with Beer, Bands and Buds as its new theme for Thursday evenings.
“The Summer Concert Series is an exciting new way for WEGZ Stadium Bar to give our guests, who are typically sports fans, an added layer of entertainment for the summer,” said Chris Mills, General Manager of WEGZ. “We want to build a reputation for being more than just the best place to watch the game. There has always been a great synergy between sports and music and we knew this was the right fit.
“The bands are top notch and really put on a great show, and we have the perfect venue to support local talent.”
Celebrity judges will critique the performers. The bands will be judged based on their set-up and preparedness, musicianship, stage presence, song writing and originality, crowd interaction and appreciation, as well as performance.
On hand to judge the bands on August 4, will be Brad Juschkewitsch of Labatt Breweries of Canada, Edge 102.1 Personality Todd Shapiro, USS band mates Ash Boo-Schultz and Human Kebab and a representative from WEGZ Stadium Bar.
Point values of one to five will be awarded in each category and tabulated at the end of the individual performances. The band with thehighest overall point value will be named the Rock ‘N’ Brews Round One winner and will move on to compete against the Round Two winner in the Band Showdown.
The second preliminary round will see three more bands rock the stage. Three Quarter Stone is in the spotlight on August 11, Mary Rose Obsession on August 18 and Kid Richards on August 25. The three bands will return on September 1 to compete for the second and final spot in the Band Showdown.
“The crowning achievement at the end of the summer is our grand NFL Tailgate Party on September 11,” noted Mills. “Our parking lot will be the stage for a free concert. We couldn't think of a better way to lead into our busiest time of the year for sports. Everyone is invited to what will be a great show.”
The Showdown winner will open for the Canadian alternative rock band, USS, at WEGZ for the NFL Tailgate Party to celebrate the NFL season opener.
