Favoured Fillies Prevail In Lady Crocus
Fresh off a pair of victories in their second leg Silk Lace splits at Miami, three-year-old pacing fillies Giggitygiggitygoo and Kinda Special were deemed the favourites in this weekend’s stakes action -– two $4,930 Lady Crocus divisions, sponsored by Standardbred Canada and the MSSBA –- and they didn’t disappoint
.
With the inside post advantage, Greg Manning and his filly Giggitygiggitygoo ($3.30) fired to command and fought back against a late challenge from pocket-sitter Some Beach Gal and trainer-driver Rey Roland to win the first division in a new mark of 2:03.4 by three-quarters of a length. Adams Girl and Darryl Mason finished seven and a half lengths back in third.
The Salient Hanover-Collision Course filly is now two-for-five in her career with close to $6,000 earned.
In the second split, Kinda Special ($3.30) and driver George Isman took control from the inside post position and briefly relinquished the lead to the parked out Miss Tinkerbelle and Richard Remillard before coming back on and kicking away to score by nine lengths in a career-best 2:01.1. Overnight Success, with Darryl Mason in the bike, and the Michel Rey-driven Dougies Deal finished second and third respectively.
Shawn Worthen trains the Payday Hanover-Aiwa miss, who notched her fourth (consecutive) win in seven seasonal starts for Kristel Olding of Inglis, MB, and Ruth and Bill Welcher of Roblin, MB. Kinda Special has won five times in 12 lifetime starts to earn $11,745.
