Zeron Star Set For Hambo Oaks
The Rick Zeron trainee, Lady Rainbow, has had a very productive sophomore season this year and her WEG conditioner hopes that continues when she lines up behind the gate in Saturday’s $35,000 Hambletonian Oaks
eliminations at The Meadowlands.
The daughter of Muscles Yankee has $133,871 in earnings from just four starts this season, despite failing to find the winner's circle. The veteran driver/trainer is confident that could change this weekend.
“The material there [at The Meadowlands] is much finer than it is here and I think she will grab the track better,” Zeron said. “Last year, I had her at The Red Mile and Pocono and she really grabbed the track for me. This morning we went in (1):56, but I think we have to go in 1:53 [on Saturday] to get our picture taken.”
Last season Lady Rainbow earned $212,989 from nine starts, but made costly breaks in the $500,000 Breeders Crown, $466,000 Peaceful Way and Goldsmith Maid elimination.
“Maturity,” Zeron said. “What she did was she matured and her chest grew out. I had an issue with her last year touching her inside knee and she tapped that in the Breeders Crown and Goldsmith Maid and that cost us lots of money. We don’t even wear knee boots on her this year, she’s so clean and slick going.”
Owned by Zeron, along with The Camel Club Stable, Rojan Stables and Herbert Chambers, Lady Rainbow has drawn post nine in the fourth race on July 30.
