Monticello’s WDC Races Drawn Friday

Monticello Raceway previously hosted a leg of the World Driving Championship in the late 1970s; and on Wednesday, August 3 the ‘Mighty M’ will again host a round of the oldest, richest, and most prestigious tournament in the pari-mutuel sports.

With permission from of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board, Monticello Raceway has been allowed to race 10-horse fields in the four-race competition --- the same as all the other four venues will do.

“On Friday, July 29 we will be drawing post positions for the Wednesday, August 3 card, which includes four races in the World Driving Championship Series,” Eric Warner, the track’s director of Racing, said.

”In order to help fill the 10-horse fields needed for the international driving competition, we will add $4,000 to the purses of each of the four World Driving Championship events; and in addition we will pay $250 to those horses who finish in sixth through the 10th place in each of those races.”

Also slated on the program is a one-and-three-quarter-mile trot, which will hopefully be one of the four World Driving Championship races.

First-race post time for the August 3 race card will be at the usual 12:50 p.m.
