It only took National Hockey League defenseman Mike Commodore one trip to the races to become hooked on horses.

Now, as an article by the Detroit Free Press explains, the NHL veteran is a passionate thoroughbred horse owner, having had a piece of six horses at one time.

Del Mar's thoroughbred meet opened this past Wednesday, and Commodore let the Twittersphere how he felt about it.

"Enough golf for now," he reportedly tweeted. "Less than 24 hours till opening day at Del Mar. Time to start looking at some horses."
