Orange Bigi Stars In Stallion Series
Orange Bigi posted the fastest time of three divisions of The Stallion Series on Tuesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs
. The races, held for three-year-old trotting fillies, each carried a purse of $20,000.
Orange Bigi, trained by Anthony Mannino and driven Matt Kakaley, won his Stallion Series division, his third straight victory, in 1:56:1. The daughter of SJs Caviar-Emerald City used her off-the-pace weapons to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Migisi, with Jogging Home finishing third.
Owned by Liisa Vatanen of Cream Ridge, NJ, Orange Bigi improved her overall record to 3-1-0 in six tries while pushing her lifetime earnings to $28,500 with the win.
Sephora De Vie brushed to the lead in the third quarter in her assignment for driver Greg Wright, Jr., and once she cleared it was game over for everyone else. The daughter of Cantab Hall-Ava drew off to win by 5-1/4 lengths over Ladys Night in 1:57. Kelpie Hanover grabbed the show dough.
Gregory Wright trains the trotting lass for Pennsylvania partners Joe Erdner and Ben Kenney. After going 0-for-3 as a rookie, the filly has assembled a 3-3-3 record from 13 starts this season. The $10,000 payday bumped her earnings to $45,871.
Ginger Tree Lexie erupted for a 48-1 shocker in the third division for driver Mike Simons and trainer Steven Cook. The daughter of Tom Ridge-Ginger Tree Megan, who was a combined 1-for-17 going into the assignment, won for the second time in her career when she stopped the teletimer in 1:57. Devoutly Hanover was second and Im A Centrefold finished third.
Ginger Tree Stable LLC and James Novinger of Pennsylvania own the youngster, who earned a new lifetime mark while lifting her lifetime earnings to $42,065 with the win.
