Tuesday Mohawk Qualifier Recap

A half-dozen baby races kicked off Mohawk Racetrack's Tuesday qualifying session, which saw a total of

11 dashes go forward.

Race 3 was the stage for the career charted debut of the Tom Durand-trained and driven Donato Hanover colt Littlejack Hanover, who was a $52,000 yearling purchase from last fall's yearling sale in Harrisburg.

Durand, who co-owns the youngster along with Oakville, Ont. resident Allan Smith, lined up in Post 1 this morning, and the pair wasted no time getting down to business.

Littlejack Hanover was on top by 10 lengths at the opening quarter (:30) and extended his lead to 15 lengths by the time he clicked off the opening half-mile timer (1:00). The bay colt had a 20-length lead by the time he spun off three quarters (1:29.4). He cruising home with a :30.2 final quarter. The win time was 2:00.1 and the margin of victory was more than 12 lengths.

The colt is out of the Malabar Man mare Lady Bar, who is the dam of Looking Hanover, who took a mark of 1:53.2 over Chester Racetrack at age six and has grinded out over $594,000 in purse earnings.

Other notable two-year-olds that qualified during the session were The Jason Libby-trained and Scott Zeron-driven Western Ideal colt Redford Blue Chip (1:56.3), and the Mark Steacy-trained and Sylvain Filion-driven Art Major colt Hope Blue Chip (1:55.2).

Ontario Sires Stakes Gold final winner Lukes Sophie rebounded from a July 9 break during Race 7, where the three-year-old daughter of Here Comes Herbie bounced back with a half-length victory in 1:58 for trainer Carl Jamieson and driver Jody Jamieson.
