Macnamarrra Takes Inverness Feature

Macnamarrra took down the pacesetter and held off the pocket-sitter to score a narrow victory in the featured $1,100 Winners Over Pace at Inverness Raceway on Sunday afternoon

Colum Magic and Lewis MacDonell led the way past fractions of :28.4, :59 and 1:28.3 while Macnamarra and Redmond Doucet advanced first over from third and took over command as the field entered the stretch. The odds-on favourite then held off the pocket-pulling Romanie Ranger and Campbell MacIsaac by a neck in 1:59 flat. Aahm Cruisin and Gary Delaney finished third one length behind.

The six-year-old son of Camluck-Tropicana Chris paid $5 to win. Douglas MacQuarrie trains Macnamarra, who earned his fourth win of the season in seven starts for owner Roderick Smith of Inverness, N.S. The win was lucky No. 13 in the gelding’s career and put his career earnings at $51,447.
