Raising Rachel Ready For Peaceful Way

Raising Rachel is on a roll, and her next assignment is to secure a place in the upcoming $575,000 Peaceful Way Stakes final at Mohawk.

The freshman filly will be lining up with nine other trotting lasses in the third of three $30,000 eliminations for the Peaceful Way tonight, and she shows every sign of keeping her unbeaten streak intact.

Raising Rachel, a daughter of Yankee Glide, has been flawless in six starts for trainer John Kopas and owners Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, George Hempt of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania, the KR Stable, of Milton, Ontario, and Doug Millard of Woodstock.

In trotting home nearly two lengths to the good over Elusive Desire last week, in the Champlain Stakes, this precocious young lady padded her bankroll to $120,330, but a win in the Peaceful Way could be her biggest score by far.

Raising Rachel will have to contend with another Yankee Glide daughter tonight, however.

Seaside, a recent US invader who also claimed a division of the Champlain Stakes last week for trainer Jonas Czernyson. Seaside, who has chalked up five wins in eight starts thus far in her young career, set a new lifetime mark of 1:56.1 in that effort and may prove a force to be reckoned with tonight.

Conditioner Ron Gurfein, of Delray Beach, Florida, has two likely prospects in the Peaceful Way elims tonight. In the first of the three, he's sending out 7-2 second choice, Give N Take, a daughter of Cantab Hall who has never been out of the money in four starts.

And in the second elim, he has entered 5-2 first choice, Dover Miss, a homebred daughter of Andover Hall who has earned just shy of $170,000 already, thanks to a win in the Merrie Annabelle Stakes at The Meadowlands this past July. Mike Lachance has been tapped to drive both fillies.

The elims for the Peaceful Way stakes are the featured races on tonight's card at Mohawk. The Peaceful Way stakes final will run this coming Sunday, September 14, along with the $535,000 William Wellwood Memorial final for two-year-old colt trotters.
