MSSBA Futurity Elims Contested
Last year’s Manitoba Standardbred Sires & Breeders Association (MSSBA) Kindergarten and Juvenile Stakes winner My Friend Don and runner-up Kinda Special dominated a pair of $6,727 MSSBA Futurity eliminations for three-year-old Manitoba foaled pacers on Saturday at Glenboro Fair
.
Kinda Special lived up to her name when she swept from last to first in the first to capture the first elimination in 2:03, with her final frame clocked in :29.4, for driver George Isman and trainer Shawn Worthen.
The Payday Hanover-Aiwa filly got away last in the five-horse field and went wide around first over In Tatters (Darryl Mason) to track down pacesetter Miss Tinkerbelle (Richard Remillard) for the one and a quarter length victory. Pocket-sitter Rico (Dean Rey) finished third behind favourite Miss Tinkerbelle.
Kinda Special paid $5.40 to win for the first time in four outings this year. Kristel Olding of Inglis and Ruth and Bill Welcher of Roblin, MB share ownership of the bay filly.
Favourite My Friend Don overcame an outside post position and a field full of horses trained by the Rey family to win the second elimination in 2:02.2 for driver Darryl Mason and trainer Sherri Mason.
The Firm Friend-Tomorrows Pride colt took command of the field from Post 6 and refused to relinquish the lead to a pocket pulling Kaanabba (Dean Rey) in the stretch. My Friend Don pressed on to score by one and a quarter length. Golden Boy champion Kaanabba was followed by Inono (George Isman) in third.
