Schnittker Clicks With Dejarmbro's Sis
Former Western New York native Ray Schnittker brought some high priced trotting fillies to Buffalo Raceway Wednesday night to compete for $25,439 in three legs of New York Sire Stakes for two-year-old trotting fillies
. He left with two blankets, as he won the first leg with Borrow And Spend, and the fifth leg with Lima Playmate.
Fresh off a victory in the Landmark Stakes, Borrow And Spend (Credit Winner-Armbro Déjà Vu) shot right to the lead from Post 6 and hit the quarter in :31, and the half in 1:03. Schnittker let the favourite in the race, El On Wheels (Jim Devaux), have the lead to the three-quarters in 1:35.1, but a strong stretch drive by Borrow And Spend ($18.40) put her a nose in front of second place finisher Upfront Perry (Jeff Gregory) at the finish line in 2:06.
“This is a full sister to [Beal champion] Dejarmbro,” said Schnittker of the $100,000 yearling purchase that he co-owns with the Borrow And Spend Stable. “It wasn’t my driving; it was my wallet that got her to the winner’s circle.”
His second win behind Lima Playmate ($5.20), was a wire-to-wire effort in 2:03, which was the fastest Sire Stakes race of the night.
“This could be a really good one,” said Schnittker. “She did it real easy, and had plenty left in the tank.”
The $70,000 yearling, a daughter of Credit Winner-Pacific Legacy, is co-owned by Schnittker and the Lima Playmate Stable.
The other Sire Stakes winners were Miss Fidget (Eddie Lohmeyer), a 2:03.3 winner, Glee (John Stark, Jr.), a neck winner in a lifetime best 2:05.2, and Allidoiswin (Marcus Johansson), who scored her first lifetime win in 2:03.2.
