Henriksen Celebrates 1,000th Win

Veteran horseman Per Henriksen notched the 1,000th win of his career on Monday at Rideau Carleton Raceway thanks to Impish Playmate’s triumph in the fourth race

.

Henriksen, who trains the three-year-old daughter of Yankee Glide, worked out a pocket trip for the youngster and she had just enough closing speed to be a part of the milestone win.

Ironclad’s triumph in Race 7 gave Henriksen, who earned the 2009 O’Brien Award of Horsemanship, the driving double on the card. The gelding is owned and trained by Ann Karin Larsen of Norwood, ON.

In other Monday action at Rideau Carleton Raceway, Star Ruffnready rallied for a narrow score in the featured $13,000 Preferred Handicap Trot for the tandem of driver Gilles Gendron and trainer James Lamacchia. The six-year-old son of Armbro Winner-Star Wild Orchid kicked home in a :29-second clip to win by a quarter of a length over Zorgwijk Impact. Windshear took home the show dough in the six-horse affair.

Star Ruffnready, who is owned by Pepiniere Nicky Inc and Lewis Murphy of Quebec, improved his 2011 record to 4-4-0 in 10 starts. The 12-time winner has stashed away in excess of $315,000 in his career.

Congrats Per!
Winning with 1000 trotters is pretty impressive. Some of them trotters that probably would never have raced if it weren't for you.
Continued Success!
