'Abby' Bests The Boys At Home
Veteran pacing mare Abby Best returned to her home province and beat the boys with a front-stepping 1:58.3 effort in the $1,000 Winners Over Pace at Inverness
Raceway in Nova Scotia on Sunday afternoon.
Fresh off a victory against the females in the opening leg of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Pacing Series at Charlottetown Driving Park in P.E.I., Abby Best and driver Travis MacLean fired off the gate from the inside post position in the Sunday feature and carved out fractions of :29.4, 1:00.3 and 1:29.4 en route to the three-quarter length victory. Favourite Aahm Cruisin (Gary Delaney) finished second off a pocket trip and Truth Or Dare (Ryan Campbell) was third, three lengths behind.
Abby Best paid $6.70 to win as the 2-1 second choice in the five-horse affair. The 10-year-old daughter of Cambest-Armbro Seismic, who will be looking to pick up her third consecutive Erwin Andrew Memorial Pacing Series title later this year, is trained and owned by Angus Maclean of Port Hood, N.S. Showing no signs of slowing down, Abby Best has recorded four wins, one second and three thirds in 10 starts so far this year. The victory was No. 58 in her career and she now boasts $115,788 in lifetime earnings.
