Secret Weapon Stays Perfect In June

Secret Weapon returned to his winning ways on Thursday night at Rideau Carleton Raceway and kept his record for the month of June perfect

The nine-year-old Western Hanover-Falcons Secret gelding, owned by the Secret Weapon Stables of Waterloo, Ont., earned his third straight win against Preferred company during the 15-race pre-Canada Day program. After scoring victories at Grand River Raceway and Hanover Raceway in early June, Secret Weapon rallied three-wide from the backfield to score a 1:53.3 four length victory in the $13,000 Preferred Handicap Pace.

Foolish Gem (Guy Gagnon) protected the rail leaving Its A Good Thing (Ted McDonald) parked out past opening fractions of :27 and :55.1 while Secret Weapon was also parked out in sixth after a Post 6 start. As that challenger began to fade, favourite Peenie (Denis St Pierre) went wide and came charging up from fourth at the 1:24.1 third quarter mark with Pieraz (Pascal Berube) and Secret Weapon following cover. Around the final turn, Secret Weapon fanned wide and kicked home in :28.4 for the open length victory. Pieraz and Peenie finished second and third respectively.

Gord Brown was in the bike for the pacer’s fifth win from nine 2011 outings. The Wayne Preszcator pupil has won 41 races lifetime while banking close to $490,000.
