Impromptu Horse Race Breaks Out
Racegoers that were recently taking in some dashes at Georgian Downs found themselves as the unwitting audience of a couple of 'flash mobs.' Imagine this: being part of a horse race, yet you just never knew you were going to be in one
.
That was the exact case recently during a day at Le Carrousel in New York’s Bryant Park. Parents had loaded their youngsters onto the carousel like they would any other day. The guardians stepped away and probably expected some tykes to get right into the ride and others to display their displeasure.
Now for what wasn't expected.
Those in attendance would have never expected that the crew from 'Improv Everywhere' would step in and take the rather static experience in a whole other direction.
Mock announcers showed up out of nowhere, as did a trumpeter, a somewhat realistic jockey and cigar chomping punters and connections.
When it was all said and done, a pee-wee --- a prepubescent 'bug boy,' at best --- came out on top. His mount, a strapping hare appropriately named Carrots on the Brain, had taken top prize.
When asked in his post-race interview, the youngster didn't wish to divulge trip tactics or what his charge felt like at the wire, he gravitated to the simplicity of the moment.
The question, 'How did you feel about the race today,' was answered with a full-smiled, "good!" When queried as to why the youngster picked the bunny over so many other available mounts, the tyke responded by saying, "Because I wanted to!"
Improv Everywhere is a New York City-based prank collective which causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places. Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, Improv Everywhere has executed over 100 missions involving tens of thousands of undercover agents.
