Artistry Euthanized

Trot Insider has learned that the connections of Artistry have been forced to humanely euthanize the 11-year-old Artsplace gelding

.

Artistry raced a total of 275 time and compiled a record of 44-40-29. He grinded out $304,766 in career purses and took his mark of 1:53.1 over Georgian Downs' five-eighths mile oval as a six-year-old.

The horse was claimed many times over his career and helped fill the shedrow of many trainers. The bay ended his career in the barn of Richard Armstrong and made quite an impact on Richard's son, Luke.

"His last win was at Exhibition Park Raceway on December 18, 2010," Luke told Trot Insider. "He won his last race for us, which I would never imagine it would've been."

Luke explained that the gritty Artistry suffered from a bone condition which ultimately led to the tough decision to put the horse down. "He had very bad legs and ringbone started the end of this winter and was spreading quickly. He was in pain and we wanted to do the right thing for the sake of the horse.

"He was very special to me, being the first horse I warmed up, jogged often and warmed up in the race bike. Horses now are just 'things' to a lot of people and don't get the credit or get recognized as much as they should."

Please join Trot Insider in offering condolences to the connections of Artistry.
