Shakes That Junk Sizzles In Bud Light
Shake That Junk turned heads on Friday night at Flamboro Downs when she scorched the half-mile oval in 1:52.3 to take the first of two Bud Light Stakes divisions for three-year-old pacing fillies.
Starting from Post 4, driver Jody Jamieson positioned the Camluck – Diamond Dawn filly on the front in :26.4. Shake That Junk, who was under a strong hold to Jamieson the entire mile, rolled through fractions of :54.4 and 1:23 as A Fiesty Affair (Mark MacDonald) stalled first-over on the outside.
Jamieson let Shake That Junk loose around the final turn and she was on cruise control the rest of the way, winning by eight lengths in 1:52.3. All Accounted For (Steve Condren) finished second while third went to Western Seduction (Scott Coulter).
The 1:52.3 clocking was a new lifetime best for Shake That Junk and just three fifths of a second shy of the 1:52 track record set by Michelles Power last year.
James Dean trains and co-owns Shake That Junk with partners Dr. David Powell, P And J Stable and 1140545 Ontario Ltd. A three-time winner in nine tries, she has banked $70,250 in 2008. Taking home the lion’s share of the $48,587 purse boosted her career bankroll to $353,569.
You Thrill Me was an impressive first-over winner in the $47,747 second split. Sprig Hanover (Rob Shepherd) was hustled to the front and set the tempo in :26.3, :57 and 1:25.1.
You Thrill Me settled into third for driver Roger Mayotte going to the quarter, but she was out and on the move heading in front of the grandstand the first time. The Jate Lobell – Lady A filly went the wide way the second time around, but she was able to seize the lead strides before the wire and score by a nose in 1:54.1. Lola Palooza (Dennis St. Pierre) used the passing lane to grab second over Sprig Hanover.
Kendra Casselman trains and owns You Thrill Me, who is 5-2-1 in nine lifetime tries with earnings of $64,283.
