Filly Bay Equals Stakes Mark In PASS

Filly Bay took a contested lead early in the mile and never relinquished it as she captured a division of Friday’s $60,000 Pennsylvania Stallion Series event in 1:57.2 over a “good” Meadows track, equaling the stake record

.

The event for three-year-old filly trotters was conducted over three divisions, with Ladys Night and Linnea P taking the other $20,000 splits. Randy Tharps and trainer Bill Fahy enjoyed stakes doubles with Filly Bay and Ladys Night.

Filly Bay already boasted eight victories in her career, but she entered the stake off three consecutive second-place finishes. Tharps and Filly Bay were determined not to be bridesmaids again, wresting the early lead from Quantum Glidingby and having just enough to hold off 1-2 favourite Im A Centerfold by a nose. Quantum Glidingby was a close-up third.

The time matches the stakes mark established last year by Photo Charm. Moira Fahy owns the daughter of Chip Chip Hooray-Accompaniment, who lowered her lifetime mark by 1-2/5 seconds.

Ladys Night was only a tick slower than her stablemate as she scored in 1:57.3, using a determined first-over move to wear down the leader, Devilish Emerald, and defeat that rival by two lengths as the 1-2 favourite. Keystone Cheyenne completed the ticket.

Joe Holloway and Dreamland Farms own Ladys Night, a daughter of SJs Caviar-Lady Pine who shows four victories and two seconds in her last six starts.

Linnea P did what she does best — pass horses — edging the 8-5 favourite Sephora De Vie by a nose in 1:58.1 for Mike Wilder. Shacklesonmyfeet rallied from well back for third.

“She likes to track hoses,” said winning trainer Randy Bendis. “She got some good numbers on the lead, and she tracked them down. She’s very talented but on the hot side. She frets when she’s at the track, so we try to keep her at the farm. She’ll stay in the Stallion Series. She could reach the next level, but she’s not there yet. This is a prudent plan that let’s her keep creating good things at this level.”

Jack B. Piatt II and R. Lewis Hauber own the homebred daughter of Broadway Hall-Sonic Hush.

Dave Palone, Brian Zendt and Wilder each drove three winners on the 15-race card. Saturday’s program at the Meadows features the $202,135 Meadow Bright, a Pennsylvania Sires Stake for three-year-old filly trotters. First post is 12:55 p.m.
