'Frisky' Fillies Face Off At Kawartha
The fillies were frisky as they took to the track on Saturday night to compete in a pair of $7,000 eliminations for the Frisky Fillies Pacing Series at Kawartha Downs. Both winners, Missplacedart and Hidden Gem, rallied from off the pace to pull off mild upsets in their respective splits
The series is for non-winners of $25,000 lifetime as of June 3.
Making her first start of the year, Missplacedart rallied home off cover for a mild 5-1 upset in the first division over favourite Internal Check (Brad Rae), who was challenged most of the mile by third place finisher Shady Ace (Gord Brown). The four-year-old Artsplace-Town Pro Miss mare kicked home in :28-seconds to win by one length in a career-best time of 1:55.2 for driver Richard Webb and trainer-owner Kendra Casselman. She has won three times, finishing second twice and third three times in 10 career starts.
Hidden Gem also prevailed off a second over trip for an 8-1 surprise in rein to trainer Doug Hie. The four-year-old daughter of Real Desire-Hombres Girl kicked home in :28.2 to score the 1:55 career-best victory by three-quarters of a length. Ourfingersrcrossed (Barry Treen) was the runner-up while favourite Braveheartedmillie (Reg Gassien) finished almost eight lengths behind in third. Hidden Gem has recorded three wins, five seconds and one third in 12 lifetime starts for breeder Millar Farms of Newmarket and Hielite Acres Inc. of Fraserville, Ont.
The series final will take place next Saturday, June 25 at Kawartha Downs.
