Mickey Hanover Is So Fine
The majority of the betting public hit the nail on the head on Friday evening at Grand River Raceway by sending off Mickey Hanover as the 1-5 favourite in his tenth race assignment
. Mickey Hanover didn’t just win, he demolished the field while equaled the track record in the process.
Mickey Hanover, in rein to teamster Anthony MacDonald, who evidently finished the card with four wins, shot to immediate command and widened the margin between him and the rest of the field at every juncture. He led by a length at the quarter pole in :27.2 before widening that margin to a pair of lengths at the mid-way point in :56.2. He was fifteen lengths ahead of the others at the three-quarter pole in 1:24.3, and he used a :28.3 final frame to win by 22-1/4 lengths in a sparkling time of 1:53.
The performance matched Wholly Louy’s track record for three-year-old pacing colts. He set the bar on June 26, 2007.
Rene Allard trains the son of The Panderosa-Michelles Luck for owners David O’Brien of Dorchester, ON and Anne O’Keefe of Ferryland, NL. It was the second consecutive tally for the sophomore, who is now 3-for-14 in his career.
