Daylon Magician Rebounds
Daylon Magician has the tools needed to trot with any of the colts in Saturday’s Goodtimes Stakes Final, but because of an uncharacteristic break in last week’s elimination round he was forced to settle for a spot in Friday’s consolation
.
The high profile homebred was sent off as the 1-5 favourite in Friday’s $50,000 tilt, and he didn’t disappoint for driver Jack Moiseyev who guided him to a comfortable score in 1:53.3.
Daylon Magician tucked into the three-hole while Just In and Pegasus Blue Chip battled to the quarter pole in :27.3 before the latter cleared to the top. Pegasus Blue Chip was loose on the lead at the mid-way point in :57.4, but he came under fierce pressure around the final turn from Daylon Magician who was out and rolling when ordered to do so by teamster Moiseyev. Daylon Magician used a :27.2 final quarter to win by a pair of lengths over the late-closing Whiskey Tax. Third prize went to Future Night Train.
Bred, owned and trained by Dave Lemon of Komoka, ON, Daylon Magician improved his 2011 record to three wins in four starts. It was the sixth career score for the son of Kadabra-Daylon Marvel, who now boasts lifetime earnings totaling $336,800.
