Former harness racing industry participant Richard P. Heffering of Greenwich, Conn. passed away this morning (Friday, June 17) after suffering a brain aneurysm

. He was 58 years old.

Heffering is the son of Hall of Famer R. Peter Heffering and brother of David Heffering of Tara Hills Stud Farm fame. Richard previously owned horses such as Giant Mermaid and Lifelong Victory and was also the listed breeder of 2001 Hambletonian winner Scarlet Knight.

Survived by his wife Marcia, Richard will be remembered with a private family service as per his wishes.
