Changes to the racing component of Western Fair will see the infield converted into parking space with an underground pedestrian access to the grandstand and slot facility.
The grandstand will be upgraded as well with 3,500 stadium style seats added, a portion enclosed and the façade modernized.
“Currently the second floor of the grandstand is not being used to its full capacity and we have plans to add additional meeting rooms there,” explained Hugh Mitchell CEO of Western Fair District.
“There will be considerable ‘greening up’ of the property and that includes the infield which will be much more picturesque. The tote board will also be updated.”
The work is expected to start in 2013 and take seven to 10 years to complete. The facility is now known as the Western Fair District with the goal to turn it into a year-round attraction.
“It is the goal of the Western Fair District to be recognized as the preferred centre for year-round agricultural, entertainment, education, sports and gaming activities in the region of South Western Ontario,” Mitchell noted.
In addition to the enhancements to be made at the property, Western Fair also revealed a new logo and tag line “be entertained."
