Sir Caviar Scores In Record Time
Rebounding from two sub-par efforts, Sir Caviar captured Monday’s $22,500 Preferred Trot in the track-record time of 1:53.1
. It was the fastest mile ever by an older gelding at The Meadows, knocking a tick from the old mark Sir Caviar held jointly with Master Begonia.
Sir Caviar dominated the Preferred Trot for much of the spring, winning three straight by a combined eleven lengths. But he broke stride in a $60,000 Open at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and tired late in his return start at The Meadows.
Monday, the five-year-old SJs Caviar-Sierra Flower K gelding flashed his best form for Brian Zendt, reeling off his front-end score in :27.4, :56.3 and 1:24.4 en route to the 1:53.1 tally. Although Rembrandt Spur enjoyed a pocket trip, he lost ground late and finished four lengths back in second. Michaelrowyourboat rallied for show.
Leslie Zendt trains Sir Caviar, who now boasts $240,991 in career earnings, and owns with Bill Zendt.
