Peenie Romps In Rideau Preferred

It’s been an up and down ride in recent weeks for a pacer named Peenie, but on Thursday everything went his way in Rideau Carleton Raceway’s $13,000 Preferred

.

Peenie, who won at the Preferred level on May 19 in 1:52.3 and then broke in his next outing en route to an eighth-place finish, bounced back in a big way en route to notching a 1:53 tally in Thursday’s assignment for the tandem of driver Denis St. Pierre and trainer Colin Johnson.

The six-year-old son of Real Artist-Tre Cress got away fifth in the six-horse affair, and he stayed there while Bolero Charles tore through fractions of :26.4 and :55. Peenie came first over as the field chased Bolero Charles to the three-quarter pole in 1:24. Just a neck separated Bolero Charles and Peenie at the top of the stretch, but Peenie used a :28.3 final quarter to deliver the knockout punch in the lane. Peenie drew clear to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Bolero Charles, with Firethorn tagging along to grab the third prize.

Colin Johnson of Le Gardeur and Ecurie JGV Enrg of Laval, QC share ownership on the 34-time winner who now boasts a 5-3-1 record in 15 starts this season. He has banked close to $58,000 this season thanks to the 5-3-1 record he has assembled from 15 starts. Peenie is a career winner in excess of $407,000.
