See You At Peelers Equals World Record
See You At Peelers came into Sunday night’s Empire Breeders’ Classic a perfect 14-for-14 in her racing career, and she pulled out of Tioga Sunday night 15-for-15 and with the title of World Champion
. The three-year-old Bettors Delight-West Side Glory daughter took home the $279,175 final in a world record equaling 1:49.2 with Marcus Johansson aboard for trainer Jimmy Takter.
The connections of See You At Peelers opted for Post 3 in the final and after drifting off the gate, Johansson quickly took control of the mile past the quarter in :27.
The field lined up single file past the half in :55.2 and as the field aimed towards three-quarters, David Miller was forced to move Shyaway first over. However, no one was even getting to the leaders wheel as See You At Peelers paced a third panel in :27.1, reaching three-quarters in 1:22.3.
The main threat left for See You At Peelers was Swinging Beauty and Scott Zeron, who had been sitting in the pocket the whole mile, but Johansson asked for more and the filly responded. See You At Peelers paced home a final panel in :26.4 to win by a length in 1:49.2, equaling the world record for three-year-old pacing fillies on a five-eighths mile track, established by Showherthemoney at Dover Downs in 2009. Swinging Beauty and Scott Zeron hung on for second, while New Album and George Brennan got up for third.
With the victory See You At Peelers has now banked more than $720,000 for Christina Takter of East Windsor, New Jersey and John and Jim Fielding of Toronto, Ont.
In the $289,925 final for the three-year-old colt and gelding pacers, Fashion Delight used some early speed to get into position taking the field to the quarter in :27.1.
As the field went by the stands for the first time, Brian Sears moved Feel Like A Fool to the front, but David Miller was making him pay a price to get there in a second quarter of :26.3, reaching the half mile mark in 53.4.
When Sears turned to head towards three-quarters, there was no letting up as Matt Kakaley moved Samandar to the outside to apply immediate pressure and trip the three-quarter time in 1:21.4.
After rebuffing the challenge, Sears had one more opposition to face with Fashion Delight sitting on his back, but Fashion Delight was too much for him in the stretch and got up to win by a neck in 1:50.2. Feel Like A Fool and Brian Sears took second, while Sir Ziggys Z Tam and Pat Lachance used a rail ride to get third.
With the victory, the Jim Campbell trained three-year-old Bettors Delight-BJs Sunshine colt increased his career earnings to more than $655,000 for Fashion Farms LLC of New Hope, Pennsylvania.
