Preferred Trotters Take The Spotlight
The venerable Im Justa Lady, at 10 the oldest in the field, poured through the Lightning Lane to score a 7-1 upset in Wednesday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Trot at The Meadows, the 72nd victory in her distinguished
career.
Im Justa Lady was shuffled after leaving alertly and appeared hopelessly boxed in around the final turn. But when the Lightning Lane magically opened, the daughter of Inquirer-Quite Becoming blazed through for Tony Hall to score in 1:56.1. BVs Sister was second, three-quarters of a length back, with Pilgrims Stunner third.
Mike Strejcek trains Im Justa Lady, who now boasts $668,036 in lifetime earnings, for Patricia Daumit and Janet Collins.
In the companion feature, the $22,500 Preferred Trot, Rembrandt Spur, the all-age track record holder, reasserted himself following a shaky start to the season with a 1:54.4 victory under wraps for trainer-driver Dick Stillings. Rembrandt Spur made the front with a quarter-pole move and widened thereafter, prevailing in 1:54.4. Sing Jesse Sing rushed through the Lightning Lane to nip Santana Bluestone for place.
Roy Davis owns Rembrandt Spur, a five-year-old Pegasus Spur-Marty E gelding who extended his career bankroll to $353,203.
