Burke Entries Sweep Top Spots
Ron Burke trainees Red Star Hottie and The Assassinator finished one-two in the $32,000 Mares Invitational Friday night at Meadowlands Racetrack
.
With Brian Sears in the sulky, Red Star Hottie settled in third off the gate and stalked the early leaders through the first quarter in :27.2 and the half in :55. She came first over past three-quarters in 1:23.1 and accelerated down the stretch to an one length victory in 1:51. She returned $4.40 for the win. The Assassinator (Yannick Gingras) followed the cover of her stablemate to edge out Spirit To Spare (Tim Tetrick) for second.
“She had a little break and freshened up,” driver Brian Sears said of Red Star Hottie. “She’s coming off two sharp qualifiers so she was ready for this one. She’s one of the top mares I think, and can go in most races where there’s money.”
The six-year-old Alberta sired daughter of As Promised-Whitehorse Fever now has 30 wins in 70 starts for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC of Fredericktown, Pennsylvania and Weaver Bruscemi LLC of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The lion's share of the purse pushed her bankroll to $434,240.
