Billmar Scooter Surprises In Mares Open
Billmar Scooter rallied in a frantic finish to pull off an upset at 30-1 in the featured Open Pace for fillies and mares on Wednesday night at Mohegan Sun at Pocono
Downs. The race carried the night’s top purse of $60,000.
Leaving from post position No. 5 in a field of eight, Billmar Scooter, driven by Tyler Buter for trainer Amber Buter, sat sixth early on while Lightning Treasure set the pace. On the front stretch, Buter set the six-year-old mare to the outside to follow the cover of 8-5 favourite Higher And Higher. That’s where she stayed until the stretch, when Billmar Scooter won a four-way battle to the line by a length in a career-best time of 1:52.1. Ticket To Rock came on for second while Higher And Higher ended third.
Billmar Scooter, who shipped in from Yonkers for the start and is owned by Tyler Buter, Allen Sisco Stable LLC, and Oldford Farms LLC, all of Michigan, won for the fourth time in nine races this season. The mare, sired by Keystone Raider, now has 18 career victories and lifetime earnings of $218,590.
