Pair Of Opens Featured At Buffalo

A pair of $10,000 Opens, along with some early bird Kentucky Derby bettors, greeted the horses and drivers at Buffalo Raceway Friday night (May 6)

.

In the Open Trot, Credit Press, a six-year-old Credit Winner gelding out of the Muscles Yankee mare Power Press, won in 2:00.2, for owners Dennis Cummings and Richard Cory, both of Akron New York. It was the second win this season for Credit Press, whose winning time established a new season’s mark.

Credit Press ($13.60), leaving from Post 3 in the field of seven, and driven by reinsman Troy Boring, settled in fifth as eventual second-place finisher Australian Stock (Keith Kash, Jr.) hit the quarter in :29.3. Hello Carlo (Kevin Cummings) took a crack at the lead and held that position at the half in 1:00 and the three-quarters in 1:30.3. Unfortunately, Hello Carlo broke stride in the stretch and Credit Press, with a :29.2 last quarter-mile, prevailed by a head. Long shot Justine Colleen (Jack Flanigen) finished third.

Trained by Dennis Cummings, the $5,000 share of the winning purse put Credit Press’s season’s bankroll at $21,396 and $236,937 lifetime.

In the $10,000 co-feature Filly and Mares Open Pace, Hidden Touch jumped up in class and won in 1:57.4 for owner Claude Bourgeois, of Balston Spa, New York. With driver John Cummings, Jr. in the sulky, Hidden Touch received a perfect pocket trip, and then exploded in the stretch to beat second-place finisher Wild West Angel (Jamie Dunlap) by a neck.

Hidden Touch ($13.60) won for third time this year and her winning time was a season’s best.

Trained by Megan Wilson, the $5,000 share of the winning purse put Hidden Touch’s season bankroll at $25,907 and $395,048 lifetime.
