Smoken Up Wows Fans Down Under
Smoken Up didn’t break the Australasian mile record on Saturday night, he absolutely smashed it to smithereens when captured the Len Smith Mile in 1:48.5
at Menangle Park.
The performance marked the first time a pacer cracked the 1:50 barrier in the southern hemisphere. Smoken Up held the previous record of 1:50.3, which was he set over the same track last November in the Miracle Mile.
"I always knew this horse could be the first to go under 1min 50sec and I wanted to be the first driver to do it,” said Lance Justice, who mapped out the winning trip for Smoken Up. "If he can go 1min 48.5sec down here, how fast would he go in the (United) States with those speed sulkies? I'm going to have to think seriously about taking him there to race."
The Herald Sun has more details on Saturday’s amazing performance.
