Driver Gord Rayner sent Four Twenty Seven three-wide into the final turn to pull off an 11-1 upset and earn his 1,000th career win on Friday night in the 10th race at Western Fair

Raceway.

After getting away seventh from the outside starting spot, Rayner and four-year-old Duke Of York mare Four Twenty Seven picked up cover from Maple Martini (Stewart Sowerby) and rallied home to edge out the popular pacesetter, Angus King (Nick Steward), by half a length in 2:02.2. Pocket-sitter Emerald Secret (Alex Lilley) finish third.

The win was Four Twenty Seven's first in two seasonal starts and sixth lifetime for trainer and co-owner Wayne Langille, who shares ownership with Lois Allison of Hamilton, Ont.

For Rayner, the win was his first in five 2011 starts. The 49-year-old resident of Dundas, Ont. has earned over $4.3 million in purse earnings.
